A New Journey – Homeschooling, Organizing, and more…

Before Madysen was even born, we were praying, discussing, and struggling with what choice to make for her education. She is nearly 5 years old and will be starting Kindergarten this fall. At the beginning of this year, we thought we had decided what choice to make, but we still couldn’t shake the feeling that it wasn’t what God was calling us to do as a family. So we changed it up and have decided to homeschool our children. While many may doubt our decision or make different choices for their family(which is perfectly fine!), we have our own reasons for choosing this route. I will likely be sharing a separate blog post soon with a bit of insight into how and why we came to this decision, but for now, I just feel like getting this info out and beginning to share our journey into this uncharted territory. 🙂

At this point, I am in the planning and preparing stage. I am researching curriculum, asking too many questions of other homeschool moms, stalking blogs, and attempting to organize my thoughts. Okay, I can hear you saying right now, “It’s just Kindergarten…it can’t require that much preparation!”. And, yes, you are right, I should probably not be so crazy(but, have you read the title of this blog?)! I would like, however, to get started on the right foot and have a plan of action, even it is just for Kindergarten. Not to mention that I am so incredibly excited! No, really! The more I research certain curriculum and learning projects, the more excited I get! I cannot wait to get started! I am sharing this because I feel that it will be a great way to document our journey and I would love to be able to share what I learn along with way with other families that may be considering this option for themselves.

Along with these new posts that will be about homeschool activities, field trips, fun things, curriculum choices, etc., I am also going to begin some other mom/home related posts as I make it my goal to re-organize our family meals(hello, meal calendar!), structure our days better, begin chore charts, try new recipes, and more!

I am very excited about some of the new things that I will be posting and while I am not an expert on any of it, I love when other moms share their journeys, so I would like to encourage and hopefully bless someone else through all of this. Maybe another mom will take comfort in knowing that she is not the only one who gets frazzled and has to make a concentrated effort to organize her home and stay sane while raising young children, homeschooling(or other!), and more.

Welcome to this new leg of our journey! Well, maybe it isn’t a new journey after all…I believe that God has been preparing our hearts for this from the beginning and perhaps we have always been on this journey. I think that this is just another turn on the path that we have been on all along. I love when God reminds me that HE directs my path, not me, because He also reminds me that when He is in control, I have nothing to fear. His ways are higher, better and far more perfect than my own. 🙂

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6

I am looking forward to hearing about your journey and the information you find as well as the connections with other homeschoolers. Eden turns 5 in March and we are considering what to do. So I will keep you in my prayers that you follow God’s will and ask that you do the same for me. Blessings Sister.

I enjoyed reading this! We have been homeschooling since 2005. We still get people who question our choice (I’m ok with this, it’s human nature to question something “different”) and I *still* over-research things, stalk blogs and ask questions. 😀

I found a Welcome to Homeschooling guide that was helpful…you may appreciate it also: http://www.time4learning.com/homeschool/welcome.htm. We do use Time4Learning, who put out the guide, but you don’t have to to benefit from it. 🙂

I hope that your homeschooling journey started off wonderfully and you hold onto that excitement! Looking forward to coming back and seeing how things are going with you…
